Greetings Banning Unified School District Community, We are excited and eagerly anticipating the historical event of a Solar Eclipse scheduled to take place April 8, 2024.  To make the most of this rare astronomical event and ensure that it is a safe educational opportunity, teachers will engage students in a variety of instructional activities. We want to emphasize the importance of safety precautions that are necessary when observing a solar eclipse to prevent any harm to students’ eyes for students without safety glasses. As such, students may participate in variety of lessons in science, art,  writing, and mathematics including: Watching a live stream of the eclipse with real-time footage Exploring the alignment of the sun, moon, and Earth, and the different types of eclipses Expressing their creativity through art projects or writing assignments inspired by the solar eclipse Calculating the duration of the eclipse or how old they will be when the next solar eclipse occurs Exploring the cultural and historical significance of solar eclipses in different societies worldwide Engaging in critical thinking by asking questions or engaging in discussions about the significance of eclipses and their impact on society.
